Can you count how many blessing you have? What happens if someone asks the same question to a child and then to a grown-up like you and me? What would be the difference in our response? Unlike children who would respond happily, grateful for every little thing, our minds immediately focus on that which we do not have in life. We think: I do not have a good job, my boss is not fair, my salary is meager, people don't care about me, my colleagues dislike me, I have no car, house, and so on.
But if you just change a bit of focus and make a list of blessings which you now have, it might be hard to keep count of them all. For example, you are healthy whereas people in hospitals cry because of unbearable pain. While you have a stable job, a lot of people are still searching. Some are on the road, moving from door to door giving their CVs with bleak chances of getting selected. You have a little money in the bank whereas some people right now are asking and begging for small amounts as loans. You can see the beautiful sunshine and the clear blue sky while others cannot see at all. You can afford your kids' education while other small kids are already engaged in labor. You and your parents are alive, others have no one. As this list is never ending, so must our gratitude in life be!
To get all these blessings is not our birthright, but we have been bestowed with them. If we are among the lucky few, then it is our utmost responsibility to reach out to those who are deprived of such blessings. And when you start sharing with this 'attitude of gratitude' you start receiving genuine happiness in abundance inside of you.
But if, on the other hand, there are dominant feelings of greed in us, then it will never ever be fulfilled, nor will it give us satisfaction in life. Greed involves selfish feelings, and it triggers only the emotions of dissatisfaction and jealousy inside. That is why we must strive to make a paradigm shift right now towards an attitude of gratitude!
• People should strive to develop an 'attitude of gratitude'
• By focusing on the positive, our list of blessings will be long
• It is our responsibility to reach out to those who are deprived
