I was hiding a few orange seeds in my fist and challenged my leadership session audience that ''I can prove to you that I am holding billions of oranges in my hand right now.''
They were not sure what I was trying to convey. They believed that it would be impossible to hold such a huge number of oranges inside my fist. Then I showed them the orange seeds and repeated my question.
I told them that the seeds would bring a few trees with hundreds and thousands of oranges after harvest. And again if the seeds were planted, it would generate thousands of oranges. This cycle is unstoppable and surely, I was able to convince the audience, and they believed that I was right.
This metaphor truly reflects our unlimited potential as a human being. One cannot see the millions of oranges inside by just looking at one orange unless you peel it off and see the seeds you can grow. Similarly, looking into any human being, we cannot, at once, figure out the potential hidden inside a person. This unlimited power and potential is only unleashed from an individual when he is aware of it and puts himself in the right environment of growth. This right environment is the attitude of lifelong continuous learning not only through experiences but also through the experiences of others.
Someone was once asked his age. He replied that he was 1,000 years old. The person who asked laughed at him and asked him why he came up with that answer. The man replied that whenever a person shares valuable lessons with him, he would instantly add that experience to his own without spending the same amount of time himself.
• Having the right attitude allows one to achieve his career goals
• Every person's knowledge is multiplied by others' experiences
• Life consists of a series of continuous learning and relearning
