How to work on your goals like a bamboo tree

Everyone, including you, has probably heard of the bamboo tree story. There is a tree called the Chinese bamboo in the Far East. It is different from the other trees because it does not grow in the usual way. While most trees grow steadily over a period of years, the Chinese bamboo does not break through the ground for four years. On the fifth year, however, it begins to grow at a rapid rate – reaching a height of 90 feet in just five weeks.

Would you believe it? Did the tree only attain its height in those five weeks, or during the period of five years?

Life often works in a similar way. You can work for weeks, months and even years on your dreams and goals without any visible signs of progress. You may face criticisms by many people around you – your family, friends and co-workers – saying you are simply wasting your time. However, once you break through all those criticisms, exponential growth will definitely happen to you. History is replete with stories of many world-famous brands that have grown in similar fashion.

If you believe in this philosophy, then only one thing is required from you: your strong self-belief that whatever efforts you are currently putting in in your job or business will eventually give you the desired results. The growers of the Chinese bamboo had the belief that if they kept watering it and fertilizing its soil, it would break through.

The dilemma is that majority of people nowadays fail to realize that achieving a dream is a sure thing if one does not give up. As long as they keep watering and fertilizing their dreams, these will come to fruition. It may take months or years, but eventually, the roots will take hold and the tree will grow – in remarkable ways.

Everyone, including you, has a bamboo tree inside just waiting to break through. Do not fail to water it and believe in its growth. You will fly high before you know it.

Handy Hints:

• Treat criticisms as motivational tools to keep you going

• Hone your craft to be successful in your career or business
