Have you seen river water making its way into the ocean? If I ask you if there exists a single river in the world that flows straight into the ocean unhampered, you will surely answer in the negative.
It is a lot like life. When we pursue our life journey, we will surely come across many deterrents on the way. We should then always remember that like a river, we only need to change our direction, not our destination.
This change of direction comes when we need to make a decision regarding the events that happened in our lives. We have the option of either saying ''Yes'' or ''No.'' Sometimes, we come to realize that our ''No'' is actually a ''Yes'' to success and happiness.
If you study the history of all successful people, you will find a consistent pattern irrespective of their race, color and origin. They all have the ability to evaluate when it is essential to say ''No.'' We mainly choose based on our beliefs and values. If your principle is to always speak the truth, then whenever you are in a situation to decide whether to tell the truth or lie, you will definitely choose the former.
Our existing state of life is simply the sheer outcome of the different choices we made. If you are committed to making your dreams a reality, e.g. become a manager, own a business, score excellent marks in exams, then you must say ''No'' to parties, social activities, television shows, weekend movies and other time-consuming activities in order to remain focused on your objective. At the same time, you have to say ''Yes'' to good dietary habits, learning new skills and creative networking which will raise your mental awareness and nourish your thought patterns.
Remember though that while you are free to make choices, you are not free to choose the consequences of your choices.
So, be courageous in saying ''No'' to non-productive and distracting activities which will deter you from doing your best.
• Change your direction not destination when faced with issues
• Sometimes choosing to say ''No'' means saying ''Yes'' to success
• Successful people know how to evaluate things and say ''No''
How would you like to be remembered?
