Etihad Airways said on Sunday it will employ more than 1,000 Emiratis over the next three years in a new revenue accounting centre the airline will open in Al Ain next month.
The Revenue Accounting Centre of Excellence will employ more than 500 Emiratis in the first year of operations, according to an Etihad statement, and later employ more than 1,000 by the end of 2017.
Etihad already operates two customer service centres in Al Ain, the UAE's third largest city.
The centre will provide its services to Etihad and the airlines it holds equity stakes in before opening to non-affiliated airlines, an Etihad spokesperson confirmed. The spokesperson also said the centre opens on October 1.
The investment from Etihad is expected to be in the millions of dirhams, the spokesperson added, without divulging an exact figure.
Almost 100 Emiratis have already been employed as part of the project. The spokesperson said positions are open to university graduates.
The UAE, along with the five other member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has an active nationalization employment policy to increase the number of nationals working in professional roles in the private and public sectors.
