Strata Manufacturing, an arm of the Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Aerospace, said it was targeting a growth plan that will see its employee numbers grow from the current 700 to 1,200 by the year 2020, with an Emiratisation rate above 50 per cent.
Homaid Al Shemmari, chief executive officer of Aerospace and Engineering Services at Mubadala, said the company will be boosting its investments in technology in order to make the manufacturing process of aeroplane parts more automatic than manual. He added that this will help Strata better compete with large manufacturers in countries like China and India, and ensure sustainable growth.
Al Shemmari was speaking on Tuesday on the sidelines of a press conference in Abu Dhabi to announce the inaugural edition of the Abu Dhabi Aviation and Aerospace Week (ADAAW), which is set to run from March 6-12, 2016.
The event will run in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain converging six trade, defence, entertainment, and sports elements under its umbrella. The ADAAW is expected to attract various decision markets and experts from the international aviation and aerospace industry.
The week will include the second Unmanned System Exhibition (UMEX), first Simulation Conference and Exhibition, third Global Aerospace Summit, and fourth edition of the Abu Dhabi Air Expo. It will also feature the first edition of the Middle East Aviation Career Exhibition and Conference, as well as the eighth Red Bull Air Race.
UMEX, which was previously held as part of the International Defence Exhibition (Idex), will now be under the ADAAW umbrella, with organisers saying that the separation of the events will help each one of them grow and attract more people.
Speaking at the press conference was Jasem Al Darmaki, acting director general of Abu Dhabi’s Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA), who said the ADAAW will help attract more visitors to the emirate, and boost its events calendar.
Meanwhile, Humaid Al Dhaheri, acting group CEO of Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, said: ''The key objective of hosting Abu Dhabi Aviation and Aerospace Week is to spark confidence in Abu Dhabi’s aviation sector, and increase the number of exhibitions and international conferences hosted by Abu Dhabi.''
ADAAW is held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
