There is this dynamic leader I met who believes in teamwork. During a recent community activity, the town in which he is the chief served a huge gathering of supporters without any problems and to the full satisfaction of everyone. The chief attributes it to teamwork.

Over the past many years, the way the community has been managed and brought people together for a common purpose never ceased to amaze me. I have observed that events are conducted in a systematic manner and there is not even an iota of confusion at any stage. The important aspect is that everything happens with the support of a team of volunteers. This is a great example of what teamwork can achieve.

The important thing to remember in teamwork is that the sum of the team's efforts is always greater than the sum of individual efforts. It goes without saying that all team members work with a single goal. There is total clarity on what has to be achieved and there are strict timelines that cannot be deviated from. This helps ensure that everyone involved is moving in the right direction. The team members trust each other and there is a strong sense of belonging with open communication.

When there is open communication, there is no ambiguity or unwanted confusion. While the dynamics are changing in the corporate world, it is also an undisputed fact that none of us work in isolation. We all need to work with others at one time or another.

Individual brilliance needs to be supplemented with team efforts and it is quite evident that when everyone puts their creative juices together, the wheels move forward without any problem. Develop your team working skills and be part of a successful team which will help you move up in your career.

Handy Hints:

• We all need to work with others at one time or another

• Teamwork is essential in the workplace and even at home

• Open communication eliminates any unwanted confusion
