Underwriting Manager Role and ResponsibilitiesTo manage a team of life insurance Jet underwriters who will review applications for approval, declination or referral of coverage using specific criteria developed by Allstate. This is a risk selection function output will be a decision for coverage or a referral to a more senior level.To manage a team of life insurance Medical Summarizers who will review medical records and appraise risks and summarize a medical profile with consideration of insurance mortality. Output will be used by an underwriting team to make a final decision regarding life insurance coverage.To manage a support group of trainers and auditors responsible for daily activity and quality output.Key Deliverables of Team Members End Results / Key ActivitiesEnsures timely processing of all casesComplies with standards for scrutiny of all applications and related documentsMaintains confidentiality of customersEnsures adherence to established principles, philosophy, processes and proceduresMaintains a strong partnership with home office Jet Manager.Participates in reviews and recommends approval authority of Jet underwritersGenerates and analyses production reports as well as tracking underwriting time serviceCo-ordinates with auditor and trainer for strict compliance to all the standards and guidelinesMaintains strong oversight on the underwriting cases handled by the underwriters on an ongoing basisEnsures that guidelines as set by the regulators, re-insurers and internal auditors are metEnsures strict adherence to the underwriting authority limitsOversees implementation of automation and process enhancementsTakes initiatives to enhance the process in order to enhance the speed, quality and output of underwritersManages, retains and oversees the proper training of all associatesBuilds in-house underwriting capabilityIdentifies employee training needsConducts training with trainer on medical and non-medical aspects of underwritingSupervises and coaches associates to ensure timely and quality serviceConducts performance reviewsWorking Relationship with Business UnitsWorks with home office team for getting cases and all data for underwriting with respect to new applications Works with home office team management for getting cases and all data for underwriting with respect to specific policies of existing customers Works with IT for ensuring support for all the automation, reports and MIS are functioning properlyManages-Job Functions of AssociatesJETTERS Review of life applications for approval, declination or referral of life insurance coverage using specific criteria developed by AllstateMEDICAL SUMMARIZERS Responsible for providing a clear and concise summary of significant and relevant medical history and non medical history contained in records received on an applicant for life insurance coverage.AUDITORS AND TRAINERS Responsible for monitoring, reporting and addressing training needs and reporting on quality level.
Degree: MBA/ PGDM
