Job Details

(1) Drive growth of the assigned journal portfolio by growing quantity and quality of special content in line with portfolio strategy;(2) Acquire, develop and project manage high quality topical and special issues and related bulk revenue according to targets; (3) Develop and maintain relations with editors, (potential) guest editors and authors;(4) Provide process guidance and timely status information to all stakeholders for all special issues and review articles in the assigned portfolio from idea to production stages;(5) Deliver positive contribution to overall team performance and process improvementsKey Result Areas(1) Drive growth of the assigned journal portfolio by growing quantity and quality of special content in line with portfolio strategy Analyse opportunities for growth of special content in journal portfolio Translate portfolio special content targets for acquisition, publication and bulk revenue into targets per journal Identify topics for special content in line with publishing portfolio strategy Identify potential guest editors for special content in line with publishing portfolio strategy Create actionable acquisition, publication and bulk sales plans in line with targetsAs required and agreed with Production Managementand Publishing per journal, provide specific enhanced nonscientificservices to the journal, such as proxying for Editorin EES system or holding regular teleconferences withEditors and/or Editor Assistants. Preparation and maintenance of annual publicationschedules, with attention to budgetary and Publishingrequirements, ongoing and particularly at each RF. Ensure article and issue publication meets globalstandards and budgeted targets. Compile and paginate the complete issue on theplanned date in the tracking system PTSIII. Reschedule and replan (to be done according to globalprocedures) where necessary, appropriately notifying EPmanagement of relevant changes. Maintain and use Journal Information Form forlisting agreed deviations from standard procedures and todocument specifics of the journal workflow. Adhere to standard global procedures and processesor listed agreed exceptions. Maintain awareness/expertise in most currentprocedures, processes, and system functionality and attendcontinuous development training.(2) Acquire, develop and project manage high quality topical and special issues and related bulk revenue according to targets; Execute on acquisition, publication and bulk sales plans Suggest sensible topics for special issues by surveying editorial board members, researching Scopus, researching competing journals, researching community and society websites, researching conference programs, participating in editorial board meetings and promoting the special issue program Identify potential guest editors for accepted special issue ideas Pro-actively bring new special ideas forward into proposals for approval by the journal editors ensuring special issue acquisition targets are met If required, carry out quality assessment for suggested special issues and advise the editor on suitability of the proposal Monitor special content quality by tracking citations and downloads in comparison with regular content in publishing portfolio Feedback quality reports to publisher, editors and guest editors as indicators of success and input for further portfolio strategy planning Participate in editorial board meetings from time to time Take full ownership and manage the publication process for special issues by tracking progress, guiding and chasing guest editors and authors, anticipating potential barriers and solving issues Ensure all special issues are published in time and in accordance to publication schedules and targets Actively manage special issue publication budget towards year end Negotiate bulk deal agreements for special issues Generate leads for special issue bulk deals Sell and upsell bulk deals for special issues Ensure all bulk deals are delivered in time and are financially realized in accordance to commercial bulk revenue budgets(3) Develop and maintain relations with editors, (potential) guest editors and authors as well as internal stakeholders Maintain excellent communications with journal editors, guest editors and authors Establish productive collaboration with publishers Act as single-point of contact for special content on all non-production related matters for all stakeholders, internally and externally(4) Provide process guidance and timely status information to all stakeholders for all special issues and review articles in the assigned portfolio from idea to production stages; Liaise with guest editors and review authors to confirm topic coverage, formats, and timelines, once the special issue / review proposal is accepted by publisher and editors Generate special issue contracts and get these signed and stored Send out thank you notes to guest editors and authors upon project completion Set up EES system for special content Maintain the pipeline of special issues and invited review articles by timely and accurately recording progress in SID/JCI Liaise with journal managers and local supplier managers for production and dispatch matters Oversee invoicing of bulk deals(5) Deliver positive contribution to overall team performance and process improvements Actively contribute to and participate in special content development initiatives such as further workflow improvement, training new hires, organizing and participating in internal workshops, Non Solus updates, team meetings, etc. Pro-actively flag areas for improvement in relation to special content acquisition and publication QualificationsKey Competencies (Aligned with ECF)Displays High Integrity and HonestyDrives for resultsTakes InitiativeTechnical and Professional ExpertiseSolves Problems and Analyzes IssuesCommunicates Powerfully and ProlificallyCollaboration and TeamworkFunctional and Technical Competencies Knowledge of publishing process and related developmentsKnowledge and familiarity with JCI, SID, Oxford Abstracts, Science Direct, Scopus, EESKnowledge and ability to work with MS suite Excel, Word, PowerPoint, ProjectExcellent verbal and written English communication skillsCommercial awarenessEducation, Knowledge, Skills and Experiences (and any other requirements) Minimum University degree, preferably M.Sc. level3 4 years relevant experience, preferably in the publishing industry
