JOB REQUIREMENTSRole PurposeThe Director - Product Development is responsible for determining and implementing product development strategy in conjunction with other company organizations as well as outside technology and sourcing partners. The strategy includes ensuring alignment to long term business defined product roadmaps in conjunction with an overall technology strategy that is aligned to the overall architectural goals of Truven Health. The Director is responsible for leading a large team of engineers, business analysts, QA specialists along with partner sourcing organizations and as such is responsible for not only the deliverables but also Communication, people management, financial management of the group. The Director will focus on outcomes tied to business results from product delivery around service levels and quality deliverables of all products under his/her purview.Responsibilities Develop strategic planning for and direction and control of product development activities. Provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management, for all product development. Ensure the optimal application of technology and engineering resources to meet product development and/or customer requirements, per the product and/or marketing requirements. Ensure that the product suite is fully and correctly defined and documented. Hire and build a world class engineering team and acquire other necessary resources and plan to meet scheduled commitments. Ensure implementation of formal processes to support the product development process. Ensure product initiatives align to the strategic architecture of IBM/Truven Analytics while still meeting business needs Be an evangelist for engineering process best practices includingAgile product development, continuous delivery, monitoring, automation, management of metrics and business management. Manage a tight relationship with other groups required to deliver products to market including, PMO, Product Management, Business unit functions. Participate and provide strategic leadership in product steering committees. Collaborate with other to determine corporate budget, schedules and deadlines, and ensure they are met. Pro-actively foster and build channels of communication across boundaries. Drafts project justification documents, including capital expenditure requests at the department, company and/or corporate level and present proposals to peers and other executives. Continually evaluates the organizational structure and current technology as a means to enhance productivity and implement changes. Monitors and evaluates similarly situated organizations on their reengineering efforts and implementation of new technology, and compare the company's progress.
