DescriptionJob PurposeTo head a small team of 3-4 lawyers based in the Mumbai CSC covering a broad range of commercial legal matters within the Asia Pacific region, as part of the regional IP and O&T Legal team, working with other Legal colleagues and other functions across the 17 APAC countries.Job Background/ContextTo provide a wide range of commercial and contractual legal advice in support of the vendor procurement work managed by the Enterprise Supplier Chain Sourcing team in the Asia Pacific region at both regional and country level.Key ResponsibilitiesAs the senior commercial lawyer in the team, leading and providing subject matter expertise and guidance to the Commercial Legal team in Mumbai. Providing a broad range of commercial legal support, in particular reviewing and advising on a wide range of general commercial contracts of all s, including banking operations service agreements, recruitment and training contracts, marketing and agency contracts, travel contracts, consultancy and other services arrangements, software licensing, hardware purchase and maintenance, IT services contracts, market data contracts, confidentiality agreements, trial, real estate and other related commercial contracts. Many of these contractual arrangements are, or fall under, global or regional frameworks, involve multiple entities and jurisdictions, and are complex transactions. Involvement can begin from the request for proposal stage through to implementation across multiple jurisdictions. This requires flexibility to adapt a global model to specific and varied local legal, regulatory and business requirements, often across multiple disciplines. Assisting the regional IP and O&T Legal team with the development and implementation of common standards and processes aimed at further enhancing the provision of legal support, particularly in relation to the Asia Pacific ESC function based primarily in Singapore and Manila, and local counterparts in various APAC countries. Understanding and ensuring that contracting arrangements are consistent with applicable Citi policies and legal and regulatory requirements applicable to the financial services sector. Working with other lawyers across the region and globally, and external counsel as applicable.Development ValueThis position provides a unique opportunity to work in a large global financial institution. This position will involve working with a wide range of Citi teams and functions across 17 countries in Asia Pacific, as well as other regions, and an opportunity to focus on key projects for enterprise and corporate service functions within Citi. The candidate will work closely with Legal and Compliance colleagues across the region, as well as with stakeholders in Operations, Technology, Information Security, ESC, Cross Border Data Clearance, Country Outsourcing Committees and other support areas. Regular business contact, and the ability to instruct, manage and work with external counsel if required. It is particularly important to effectively manage the relationship with ESC given the significant volume and scope of projects, and to be adaptable to the changing requirements of the organization more generally. This role is suited to someone who thrives on the challenges of a broad commercial role, and is able to work with an effective and enthusiastic team, to do a great job.Person SpecificationKnowledge/ExperienceTeam leadership and management experience. Substantial experience of general and complex commercial/contractual work (preferably including either IP law or IT law) essential. Experience within the financial services sector preferable but not essential. In house experience desirable. Multi-jurisdictional experience or cross border experience would also be preferable.SkillsAn experienced commercial lawyer able to provide leadership and deal with escalation queries from more junior members of the team. A skilled negotiator who can actively work with a wide range of teams and functions in helping them to achieve pragmatic, commercial solutions to a wide range of challenges, including complex arrangements with multiple parties across multiple jurisdictions, while also identifying and addressing key risks given the need to comply with many and often potentially conflicting legal, regulatory and internal policy requirements.An enthusiastic team player who can actively work with colleagues in different countries or regions while managing a diverse and busy range of transactional work.Qualifications Qualifications6+ years PQE.
