The Subsurface and Wells E2E Delivery organization develops, deploys and supports Shells subsurface technologies in the form of user friendly, commercial grade software as well as the integration and extension of commercial software products. The software is currently organised in three mainstream applications platforms; Imaging & Interpretation (I&I), Modelling & Optimisation (M&O) and Wells Delivery, also known under brand names as GeoSigns, PetroSigns and WellVantage. Effective and efficient workflows within and between these mainstream platforms relies on a solid foundation platform that provides complementary applications and tools, as well as widely used data, computational and other services.The SS&W Foundation Platform (SFP) organisation is tasked with providing and supporting this foundation platform as well as providing strategic, design and technology expertise across the entire SS&W E2E Delivery organisation.The legacy foundation platform elements are collectively referred to as EPiCure. Over time, the SS&W platforms will evolve and align to the recently agreed strategic data and integration Target Architecture (TA). The TA is essentially a set of functionality, protocols and services that address how elements of all platforms interact and what functions the foundation platform will provide. The TA is compatible with IT strategies and relevant standards and technologies.The SFP organisation has five areasRelease Management & Deployment RM&D for all SFP applications and tools.Foundation Platform Development focus on foundation platform basic capabilitiesShared Services Development focus on shared (client and server side) services available across all SS&W platformsCloud Services Development focus on cloud hosted capabilities and facilitiesDemand Management customer interface and alignment for applications, tools and servicesPurposeThe Shared Services Development Manager will be responsible for the design, development, and handover to maintenance and support of the proprietary systems, tools and services that are used within and between the application platforms; I&I, M&O and Wells. This area is in its infancy and pathfinder projects are currently being shaped.DimensionsManaging a team of 5-10 staff developers and a number of contractors, depending on the work load. RequirementsRequirementsMandatoryUniversity degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or the Natural Sciences.Total Experience-8- 12 yearsStrong background in software development best practices including DevOps, CI/CD (continuous integration and continuous deployment), Kanban, Agile, etc...Programming experience withC, C#/ .Net, C++, Java, Python, and/or Node.js (additional experience with modern languages such as Go, Scala, or Rust, or numerical computing environments such asMATLAB or Mathematica is desired)Familiarity with scientific and numerical computing, high performance computing, and/or 2D/3D visualizationPro-active, thoughtful contributor who is comfortable working independentlyAbility to work in a virtualized global environment, and manage relations with peers and senior managers effectivelyStrong interpersonal skills and networking capabilitiesCan solve complex technical problemsAbility to thrive under pressure and handle multiple prioritiesA track record of success delivering complex software projects on time and on budgetDemonstrated leadership competencies and the ability to lead and motivate teamsDemonstrated experience with source code management systems like VSTS, svn, or git; and build tools like ant, maven, gradle, or make.Ability to engage independently with senior architects, designers, and software developers around the world, and provide feedback on functional requirements, with a focus on feasibility and complexity.Knowledge of modern database systems including relational, columnar store, NoSQL, and NewSQLStrong background in open source technology (the resume should list any contributions to open source projects).DesirableA good business understanding and skills in the range of subsurface activities from exploration, well planning to hydrocarbon field development planning is desirableDemonstrated experience with service-oriented architecture (SOA) and distributed software systems.Solid understanding of microservice architecture and design principles.Demonstrated experience designing and developing APIs, especially REST APIsDemonstrated experience building scalable systems featuring fault-tolerance, high availability, distributed microservices, and event-based and/or message-driven architecture.Demonstrated experience or knowledge of containers and container technology Docker, cgroups, Kubernetes, LXC, etc Domain experience, preferably in the Oil & Gas industry, with geodetics, 2D mapping, and geo-processing.Familiarity with security principles, concepts, and best practices, including encrypted communications and data storage, role based access control, etcUnderstanding of network communications, including TCP/IP, HTTP, WebSockets, and RPC protocolsKnowledge of computing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache Cassandra, Google TensorFlow, etc Knowledge of the Subsurface Software, e.g. Landmark products CDS, OpenWorks, and Recall.
